For as long as I can remember, I was always fascinated with the world of science. Science produced so many questions and answers that I continued to long for. As my education continued, I knew I would be pursuing some sort of science degree, and that just happened to be chemistry. I was not fully introduced to chemistry until high school, however, I fell in love immediately. I recently started my third year of pursuing a bachelors degree in chemistry, and have loved my experiences. Being a women in STEM has provided me with multiple opportunities from making connections to conducting undergraduate research to attending conferences. When I tell others that I am majoring in chemistry, I often get the most confused and concerned looks. People say, “I am praying for you” or “I could not do that to myself.” Statements like this fuel my interests because I know I am doing what is best for me and what I enjoy. Chemistry is not easy, but I was ready for the challenge. Each and every person has their own strengths and weaknesses. Learning to apply those strengths properly is one of the biggest keys to success. Knowing my strengths in STEM are helping others is one of my biggest motivations towards pursuing chemistry. One of my other biggest, and most obvious motivations, are my family and friends. These individuals have always supported my dreams and push me to my limits, even when I do not think it is possible. Without these individuals, my past experiences, and the field of STEM, I would not be the person I am today.
