Dr. Samantha Jewell has over 15 years of experience in biology education, microbiology, immunology, and undergraduate research mentoring. She is a Professor of Biology at Nevada State University and has spent much of the last decade broadening participation, belonging, and retention among students and faculty in STEM. Her work focuses on developing formal mentoring, scholarship, and faculty-support pathways that increase resilience and retention of scientific talent. Her scientific training centers on microbiology and immunology, including the neonatal immune response to influenza A virus. Dr. Jewell holds a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Kentucky and a BS in Biology from Eastern Kentucky University.
